I have spent many hours trying to get the trial of GPSGate V2.6.0.340 to make a virtual serial port on 2 different computers, both with Win 7 Ultimate x64. I always get '[2] Failed to create virtual serial port' error message. I read through the forums and other people have problems with virtual serial ports on x64 systems, but this seems to always fix the problem. I have done this many times: 'If you use 64-bit Vista please follow those steps. (If you are unsure, simply install GpsGate normally first, if Virtual ports does not work - follow those steps) 1. Install GpsGate for Windows 2.6 build 340 (or later) 2.

After installation copy the file C: Program Files (x86) Franson GpsGate 2.0 x64 bizVSerialNT.sys to C: Windows System32 Drivers 3. Exit GpsGate (if running) 4.

Run GpsGate as Administrator once. (Right click on the GpsGate icon in the Start Menu and select 'Run as administrator') Now the 64-bit driver is installed. You can exit GpsGate and run it as a normal user.' I am 100% sure that I copied the file to the correct location, C: Windows System32 Drivers, Windows automatically puts a copy in the C: Windows SysWOW64 drivers directory and it is the correct size for the x64 file, 25,616 bytes. GPSGate works great with Google Earth.

One thing that is strange is that the 'bizVSerialNT.sys' file does NOT show up in the file list for 'C: Windows System32 Drivers', but when I try to copy it over again it says that it is already there. Should this file show up? I have used GpsGate 2.6 successfully on many versions of Windows 7 both 32 & 64 bit, beta & RTM. After following the Vista x64 instructions I have always been able to create virtual output ports under Win 7 Prof & Ultimate x64. The bizVSerialNT.sys 26Kb file should show up under C: Windows System32 Drivers whether 'Show hidden files' is set or not (you could try that option though under Control Panel Folder options).

A file of same name shows up under C: Windows SysWOW64 drivers but only 14.5Kb, so maybe starting from scratch may resolve your problem. Another thought - do you still have problem viewing file & creating virtual ports when running as Administrator? Richard There no place like 127. Aquabrome Brominator Manual Muscle. 0.0.1. I have 2 computers that are basically configured the same way and they act the same way with GpsGate. Both are Win 7 x64 Ultimate with UAC set to the lowest level and single Administrator accounts.

It might help if I knew exactly what the '[2] Failed to create virtual serial port' error message meant. I have tried many different things and always get the same result. When I uninstall GpsGate I also remove all reference to GpsGate, bizVSerialNT.sys from the registry and my HD, run CCleaner and reboot. No mater what I do I can not get the bizVSerialNT.sys file to show in the file listing under C: Windows System32 drivers. I have 'Show Hidden files, folders and drives' and 'Hide protected operating system files' unchecked.

The only way that I know that the bizVSerialNT.sys (26kbytes) file is in the directory is when I copy it again to tells me that the file is already there. The bizVSerialNT.sys file in C: Windows SysWOW64 drivers on my systems are always the 26kbyte versions. This is what I do. Log in to my normal account, which has Administrator right. Install GpsGate, have done this with 'Run as Administrator' as well. The Apartment Style Edition Torrent more. Do not start up GpsGate. Copy C: Program Files (x86) Franson GpsGate 2.0 x64 bizVSerialNT.sys to C: Windows System32 driver - file does NOT show up in directory, but is there.

Run GpsGate as Adminitrator, have done this from shortcut and directly from folder. Everything works except for the Virtual Serial Ports. I am always running as Administrator.

Thanks for your time. I got it working!

I figured that not being able to see the bizVSerialNT.sys file in the directory was not a good sign. I use a copy program called TeraCopy on all of my computers. It offers a speed increase and other features to the standard built in Windows copy and has always worked great for me. For whatever reason it is not able to properly copy a sys file into the C: Windows System32 Drivers directory. I uninstalled TeraCopy and copied the bizVSerialNT.sys file over with the standard Windows copy and now the Virtual Serial Ports work. If anyone else is having a problem like mine, have them make sure that they can see the file in the directory.

This is a 'dead post' resurrect, but here in 2016, with 2.6.0.402, I am still having the serial port creation problem. I checked, the driver is in the directory, the settings seem right, no errors show up when checking input (valid NMEA data, green icon), no errors show on output (Running OK!), yet neither Device Manager nor my application sees the port.

I've tried various different COM port numbers that aren't in use to no avail. I do have another USB GPS already plugged in as well as my Garmin 60CSX (which shows in device manager and downloads properly for map and firmware updates). I am trying to compare devices and test some display software for a client and this is driving me crazy. Oh and I've been a tech for 20+ years, so if getting technical helps, please do so!
