MORE INFO (Justin Time Essentials Collection) Love for Sale – recorded live at Montreal’s Rising Sun Celebrity Club in 1978 and available on vinyl for the first time, provides an unexpurgated glimpse into the musical reality of Chet Baker’s last years; a life on the move from club to club across North America and Europe. The music was often loose and ragged. But there is a solo on “Snowbound” that is the kind of Baker moment you wait for.
It is fragile threads of luminous melody, discovered by a series of existential choices so slow they sometimes almost stop. MORE INFO The Film: This strikingly shot concert documentary follows enigmatic Drag City singer-songwriter Bill Callahan on a two week tour from California to New York. For the past 25 years, under both the Smog moniker and under his own name, Callahan has cultivated a legacy as both a pioneer in the lo-fi movement and one of the country’s finest troubadours. The film is built on impressionistic scenes of Callahan’s life on the road combined with his cryptic musings ('I started playing music when I was 20, and time stopped for me then in a good way”), creating a voyeuristic glimpse into his meticulously constructed universe of disaffection and disorder. It is an austere and beautiful portrait of both the musician and the multifarious American landscape.
The Gatefold LP packaging will include the DVD of the film and an LP of exclusive vinyl only tracks. MORE INFO Never-before issued recordings from legendary Motown guitarist, Dennis Coffey, captured live at Morey Baker's Showplace Lounge in Detroit in 1968. Duo – brothers Guy and Howard Lawrence – gave the lead-off track “BOSS” its first live performance at their self-curated Wild Life Festival in the U.K. Anchored around Howard’s pitched-down vocal, the song is a tour de force of propulsive hi-hats, liquid bass and incendiary dynamics. The intoxicatingly soulful “Feel Like I Do” came together after Guy sampled soul legend Al Green’s classic hit “I’m Still In Love With You” off a batch of vinyl he had purchased.
When Disclosure sought approval to use the track, the request reached the ears of The Reverend himself. Green loved it so much that he made an exception to his usual practice and gave Guy the original recording stems to work with. Track List Side A 1. 'BOSS' Side B 2. 'Feel Like I Do', 3. MORE INFO The full 33-minute, unreleased, psychedelic funk jam session by Memphis rhythm kingpins the Bar-Kays, mixed directly from the original tapes. Contains bonus rhythm section instrumental and booklet detailing the history of this never-before-heard version of one of Isaac Hayes’ most famous songs by Hayes historian Bill Dahl.
Hayes was already a cutting-edge funk master at Stax Records when he accepted the unprecedented assignment of creating a soundtrack for the 1971 action flick Shaft. At a time when R&B songs routinely timed out at three minutes and under, Hayes’ albums for Stax’s Enterprise imprint had been breaking new ground since 1969. His masterpiece Hot Buttered Soul consisted of only four tracks, two songs on The Isaac Hayes Movement clocked in at a hair under 12 minutes, and one selection on his To Be Continued stretched to 15:33. But his epic “Do Your Thing,” one of the cornerstones of the two-LP Shaft soundtrack, outdid them all.
Occupying nearly the entire last side of the set, it concluded after 19-and-a-half grooving minutes with the overdubbed sound of a needle scratching violently across a piece of vinyl. No one knew that jarring ending masked the existence of another 13 minutes of “Do Your Thing.” Consigned to the vaults, those improvisatory extensions—somewhere in between free-jazz and psychedelic rock—were seemingly destined never to be heard. Track List 1. 'Do Your Thing (Part One)', 2. 'Do Your Thing (Part Two)', 3.

MORE INFO The Jungle Brothers’ 1988 debut, Straight Out The Jungle, was important for many reasons. It was sloppy and goofy but had moments of real focus and social consciousness.
It was a true “kitchen sink” record, that caught a rap fanbase enraptured by Eric B. & Rakim, Public Enemy and Boogie Down Productions a bit off-guard. Also of note, beyond the excellence of the album itself, the Jungle Brothers were the fulcrum for what would become the Native Tongues movement – they came first, De La Soul and A Tribe Called Quest followed, under their guidance. By 1989, the group had even more confidence, plus a Warner Bros.
Contract and advance in their back pocket. They used it to great advantage on the self-produced and criminally underrated Done By The Forces Of Nature, expanding their sonic palette and continuing their Afrocentric approach to music and life.
Singles like “What ‘U’ Waitin’ 4” and “Doin’ Our Own Dang” (with De La and Q-Tip, alongside Monie Love) showed the group’s fun side, which has also lead the way in the “hip-house” movement. But things weren’t all fun and games, as deeper, more pensive album tracks like “Black Woman,” “Beeds On A String,” and “Acknowledge Your Own History” show. It was another accomplished mix of fun, frolic and knowledge-of-self, proving that you could be serious in the rap game but still let off steam and fill the dancefloor. Done By The Forces Of Nature stands as one of the most cherished hip-hop documents of the late ‘80s among true-school heads, and this edition is the perfect way to revisit this classic thinking-man’s (and woman’s) rap platter. Issued for the first time ever on 2-LP with the original picture sleeve artwork, it also comes with a reproduction of the original insert, with credits and lyrics. Track List 1. MORE INFO Rudy Ray Moore was a storyteller extraordinaire, a hilarious, low-down dirty man, and a legit trailblazer in the world of no-holds-barred, fuck-the-censors comedy. This classic, live Christmas album shows Moore in the 1970s form that cemented his late-night legacy. The song “Merry Christmas, Baby” starts things off – a slow, dusty blues number bolstered by a wobbly but upright backing band. The song itself is PG, extolling the virtues of a caring partner and the joy of the season. Truth be told, it’s a warm and wonderful holiday song. Good old fashioned family fun.But with the man also known Dolomite, the “down and dirty” is never far away. Side 2 is where things get good (and X-rated.
It all starts with Rudy retelling “The Night Before Christmas” – with his grooving backing band – in his trademark raunchy style. Also included, a psychedelic blues number, detailing Brother Rap’s visit to heaven (to get dirty, of course).
And it all finishes up with a thematically appropriate Christmas themed tale, with the term mtherf*cker used in potentially record-breaking numbers. It’s what you’d expect from the legendary, foul-mouthed, groundbreaking comedy legend.
A perfect way to keep the holidays from becoming too much of a Hallmark moment. Track List 1. 'Merry Christmas Baby', 2. 'Night Before Christmas Part One', 4.

Is one of the most recognizable Hip Hop songs of the 2000s. This is the kind of record that can be heard anywhere, from car shows in Texas to basement parties in Brooklyn, maybe even at your cousin’s wedding. This song is so good that at the 2007 BET Hip Hop Awards Kanye West famously gave his Video Of The Year award to U.G.K.
After “Stronger” beat “International Player’s Anthem”. Let's also not forget it's Grammy Nomination. Yes it's that good. S celebratory anthem also features Outkast and the groups combine as one over a very hypnotic Three 6 Mafia produced beat. The sample used is Willie Hutch's 'I Choose You' from the movie The Mack, which is the perfect backdrop for Andre 3000, Pimp C (R.I.P), Bun B and Big Boi to spit tales of woman, money and marriage. The song starts off with Andre 3000 rhyming over the elegant do wop vocal harmonies until a stuttered drum kick changes the mood for Pimp C to spit fire. This beat change/mood switch happen each verse, fitting each rappers personality and tone, kudos to DJ Paul and Juicy J for expertly crafting this record.

But Nigeria is a country of rich diversity, especially in its music: From the Igbo highlife and rock bands of east-central region, to the deep Edo roots rhythms from the midwest, to the keening, ornamented Fulani melodies of the north. Its primordial rhythms traveled across the Atlantic during the slave trade to provide the part of the foundation for Afro-Cuban grooves that would go on to influence the development of jazz, rock & roll, R&B and funk. MORE INFO Equal parts primal, early rock’n’roll, deviant hill country blues, and avant-garde art, Tav Falco's Panther Burns are ramshackle, raw, unholy & utterly amazing. The historico-musico revue originated in 1979 at the nadir of Memphis’ postmodern, post-Beale, post-Sun, post-Stax era, and boasts an impressive roster of past members including Alex Chilton of Big Star, Ben Cauley of the Bar-Kays, and Jim Duckworth of The Gun Club, among many others. In an equally impressive line-up for the latest recordings, Tav Falco teams up with legendary bassist Mike Watt and drummer Toby Dammit (The Stooges, Nick Cave). The songs were recorded during the group's 2015 USA Whistle Blower Tour, and will be released exlusively for Black Friday RSD on a 7'. Tav Falco's Panther Burns will release a long-awaited full length album in 2017, supported by worldwide touring.

MORE INFO In celebration of Record Store Day Black Friday, Medical Records presents another gem with an expanded reissue of The Last Flowers From The Darkness by Mr. Mark Van Hoen. Continuing our fascination with Mark’s works (see previous reissues of Seefeel Quique and Locust Morning Light on Medical), this 1997 album was originally released on Touch in CD format only.
Van Hoen has a rich background under a plethora of monikers as well as a previous Seefeel collaborator. This particular collection is a compilation of tracks recorded during the 1992-1996 era of Mark’s intriguing musical career. Channeling a darker side similarly explored in Locust’s Weathered Well and Natural Composite, TLFFTD is composed of beautiful ambient techno, spacey loops, and well-designed soundscapes that are distinct to his style. The album is featured in its entirety (except for a minor edit of the last 23-minute track) but also features 20 minutes of bonus material that will keep you on the edge of your seat for both 2LPs.

More than 40 years ago, Joey, Johnny, Tommy and Dee Dee stepped on the stage of CBGB and changed the music world forever. As artists tried to become the next Beatle or Mick Jagger, they came with a hard and fast sound that kicked off the punk movement that would become ubiquitous with their name: The Ramones. Now Danny Fields, the band's first ever manager, is releasing never-before-seen photos that offer a glimpse of the band's life from 1975-1977, when they were just beginning to make a name for themselves. It was with Danny that the boys learned how to become comfortable posing in front of a camera. Here they are pictured standing in an alley behind the CBGB club where they were regulars Mixed in with milestone moments - such as their first video shoot and famous New Year's Eve concert at London's Rainbow Theater- are the boys simply goofing off, relaxing by the pool or reading on their tour bus. All it took was a 15 minute set to convince Fields to become the Ramones' manager.
He came to see the band play at the CBGB in New York's East Village, where they were regulars with the likes of Blondie and the Talking Heads, on the insistence of Tommy Ramone. Tommy called Fields four to five times a week at his work at Soho News, begging him to come and see the band play. After watching their set, Fields bribed the band with a $3,000 check he got from his mother. The band used to cash to buy a new set of drums and he got the job.
This picture of Johnny Ramone hangs on the wall of his widow Linda's bedroom, where she says his eyes follow her around the room Fields' friend Linda Stein, who would later become co-manager of the band, then convinced her husband, the owner of Sire Records, to give the boys an audition. Four months later, they were in the recording studio and Fields began taking pictures, now displayed in his new book. ‘We all felt the event should be photographed, but not while the actual recording was in progress. These were musicians at work, after all, making their very first album,' he writes. ‘So I decided to get shots of the guys just in the studio, with and without instruments, tuning up, ordering food, calling home, listening to playbacks of what had been recordedand perhaps just standing and thinking aboutwhatever.’. Joey stands outside a massive painting of the cover of the boy's debut album in the window of the famous Tower Records store on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles It was with Fields that the boys, on the cusp of fame, really became comfortable being photographed. And Danny soon learned how the boys would react in front of his lens, whether it was Dee Dee's inability to be candid or Joey striking a pose the minute he knew you wanted to take his picture.
‘The Ramones were very much aware that rock stars have an obligation to look good,’ he writes. ‘Part of their job is to be seen, and being photographed is work.’ The Ramones may not have been rock stars when they first posed in front of Fields' camera, but his pictures prove they were more than ready to. My Ramones - Danny Fields is published by First Third Books in a strictly limited edition of 1300 copies worldwide. Available to order from www.firstthirdbooks.com.
